How many grams of a 10 % and 1% ointment should be used to make 45grams of a 2% ointment?

This can be solved thru Alligation:

=> First set-up the tic-tac-toe grid:

10% | - | ?
-----------
- - | 2 | -
-----------
- 1% | - | ?

=> Next, do math to determine parts of each:

10% | - | 1
-----------
- - | 2 | -
-----------
- 1% | - | 8

=> Then, add all parts
8 + 1 = 9 total parts.

=> Now, divide total volume needed by total parts:
45gm ÷ 9 parts = 5gm per part

=> Finally, Multiply parts x value (per part)
8 x 5gm = 40gm of the 1%
1 x 5gm = 5gm of the 10%
