An IV has been ordered to run for 4 hours at 10 gtt/min with a drop factor of 20 gtt/ml. The solution in the bag is 750 mg in 0.5L D5NS. How much active drug will patient receive in 2 hours?

IV Drip Problem
by: Brad Wojcik, Pharm D

You are starting with 2 Hours and have to end up with mg.

2 h (60 min/h)(10 gtt/min)(1 mL/20 gtt)(750 mg/0.5 L)(1 L/1000 mL) = 90 mg

Or you can do the easy conversions in your head before you start:

120 min (10 gtt/min)(1 mL/20 gtt)(750 mg/500 mL) = 90 mg
