The recommended digitalizing dose of digoxin (Lanoxin) for a child younger than 2 years of age is 38 mcg/kg. The child weighs 25 pounds. The nurse has available Lanoxin Elixir 0.05 mg/mL. How many mL will the nurse administer to the child as a digitalizing dose?

25/2.2=11.36kg

11.36*38mcg=431.81mcg

we need to convert mcg to mg =0.431.81mg

then we have available 0.05mg/ml

0.431.81*1ml/0.05 = 8.64 ml
