Depending on what each state law allows, there are several electronic methods to choose from:

- facsimile to facsimile (fax)
- email
- telephone call
- e-prescribing network (eRx)
- computer-to-facsimile machine (e-fax)

The most secure option is obviously eRx, which would be the toughest to hack. The least secure are email and fax.
